Women's Beacon Clinic

Monday, December 12th Alta Community Enrichment, SheJumps and the Utah Avalanche Center are hosting a free women's beacon clinic from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Join us at Alta Ski Resort to learn how to properly use your rescue gear. We will go over efficient beacon search, proper probing techniques and strategic shoveling practices. Whether you are just getting started or are a backcountry veteran this is a great way to help refresh your skills!

The Theory

If someone in your group is buried, YOU and your party are that victim's best chance of survival. That buried victim has roughly 15 minutes to be dug out before their chances of survival rapidly drop off. You cannot rely on ski patrol, search and rescue or other groups to perform the rescue. You need to have the knowledge and have practiced your rescue skills to be able to get the job done. In this beacon clinic course we'll teach you everything you need to know to feel confident in your rescue abilities.

Practice

We'll run a series of avalanche scenarios to practice using your rescue equipment efficiently.

Requirements & Logistics

We will meet inside the Albion Grill at 9:00 am for about a 1/2 hour, and then head outside.  No need for skis, boards or snowshoes - the clinic can be done in boots - such as Sorrels/ ski or snowboard boots.  While the clinic is free, please register to help us budget for instructors.
